The Kano State Government has signed a N12.7 billion contract with TEC Engineering Company Nigerian Limited for the completion of the Kankare-Karaye road project, which links Tofa, Rimin Gado, Kabo, and Karaye Local Government Areas in Kano North.
The project, initially awarded in 2010 with a budget of N3 billion, has suffered multiple delays and revisions across successive administrations.
Speaking during the contract signing ceremony held in his office, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isah Dederi, described the development as a significant step toward revitalizing infrastructure in the state.
“The signing of this contract is a testament to our commitment to improving transportation, boosting economic activity, and enhancing the quality of life for our people,” Dederi said. He emphasized the administration’s determination to complete the project within the agreed timeframe.
The Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marwan Ahmad, revealed that the road construction has undergone five reviews since its inception, with seven bridges already completed. He disclosed that TEC Engineering has been given an eight-month deadline to finish the second phase of the project.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and the member representing Tofa and Rimin Gado State Constituency. Both legislators urged the contractors to remain committed and mirror the seriousness of the current administration.
They also assured that the State Assembly would exercise its oversight responsibilities to ensure the timely execution of the project in line with contractual obligations.
Engr. Lee Wu, Managing Director of TEC Engineering Company, expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for entrusting his company with the project. He pledged to deliver quality work and called on traditional rulers and communities to support the initiative for its successful completion.
Representing the traditional leaders from the four benefiting LGAs, the District Head of Karaye and Turakin Karaye, Alhaji Abdullahi Aminu, lauded the government for resuscitating a long-abandoned project.
He noted that the road, once completed, would significantly stimulate economic growth and ease transportation in the region.
The contract signing underscores the administration’s resolve to fulfill its promises and accelerate infrastructural development across Kano State.
