The Kano State Private Health Institution Management Agency (PHIMA), under the leadership of its Acting Director-General, Hajiya Khadijah H. Sa’id, is intensifying efforts to protect the health and well-being of Kano residents through stronger regulation and monitoring of private healthcare services.
With the support of the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, PHIMA is working to sanitise the private healthcare sector by ensuring that health facilities comply with approved standards, engage qualified professionals and provide safe and quality healthcare services.
The agency is also strengthening the regulation of traditional health practitioners and vendors, recognising the important role they play in communities while ensuring that their activities meet appropriate safety and regulatory requirements.
According to Hajiya Khadijah Sa’id, effective regulation is essential to protecting the public from unqualified practitioners, fraudulent health claims, unsafe practices and other forms of exploitation in both conventional and traditional healthcare.
PHIMA’s regulatory activities include inspection, registration, monitoring, sensitisation and enforcement, all aimed at improving patient safety, professional accountability and the overall quality of healthcare delivery in Kano State.
These efforts support the health agenda of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, which places the well-being of Kano residents at the centre of the government’s development priorities.
With continued government support and collaboration with healthcare stakeholders, PHIMA is positioning itself as an important institution in building a safer, more accountable and better-regulated healthcare system for the people of Kano State.
