There is growing concern over regional disparities in fuel pump prices after the Dangote Petroleum Refinery released its new pricing structure across Nigeria. Despite a slight overall reduction, notable differences remain among the country’s six geopolitical zones.
According to findings by The Triumph correspondent, the newly announced pump prices for petrol range from N875 to N905 per litre, depending on the region.
A breakdown of the revised prices reveals that the South-South, South-East, and North-East zones have the highest rates. The detailed pricing per zone is as follows: Lagos – N875, South-West – ₦885, North-West and North-Central – N895, North-East – N905, and both the South-South and South-East – N905.
This disparity has sparked criticism, particularly from observers questioning why the South-South and South-East—regions that are major producers of crude oil—should bear the highest pump prices.
The new pricing reflects a ₦15 per litre reduction across all regions and partner retail outlets.
The adjustment applies to major fuel marketers in collaboration with the refinery, including MRS, Ardova, Heyden, Optima Energy, Techno Oil, and Hyde Energy.
In a statement signed by the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, Dangote Petroleum Refinery said the decision is part of its commitment to stabilizing fuel prices and easing the financial burden on Nigerian consumers.
“Our quality petrol and diesel are refined for better engine performance and are environmentally friendly,” the company stated in the release.
