Normalcy has returned to the formerly warring communities of Ugep in Yakurr Local Government Area and Idomi in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The restoration of peace followed the intervention of the Inter-Agency Collaboration Towards a Peaceful Cross River State, which visited the affected communities to assess the situation and promote reconciliation among the residents.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Cross River State Command, SP Sunday Akata, the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, alongside Brigadier General P.O. Alimikhena of the 13 Brigade and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dr. Oluwole Faluyi, visited the communities for on-the-spot assessments and peace talks with traditional rulers.
The statement noted that the visit was part of ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening security, promoting dialogue, and sustaining peace across Cross River State.
It would be recalled that a few weeks ago, the two communities were involved in a violent communal clash which led to the destruction of several houses, while properties worth billions of naira were reportedly lost by residents of both communities.
