Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the release of over N151 million for the reconstruction of a mosque that was set ablaze by an arsonist in Tiga Gadan, Gezawa Local Government Area.
The facility, which was destroyed in the early hours of May 15, 2024, is set to undergo a comprehensive redevelopment that includes not only the rebuilding of the mosque but also the construction of an Islamiyya school, an administrative office block, a renovated six-unit toilet facility, and a motorised solar-powered borehole with an overhead tank.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Monday, May 26, 2025.
He noted that the funding, totalling N151,863,895.97, reflects the administration’s commitment to fulfilling the needs and aspirations of the people of Kano State.
According to the commissioner, the governor’s approval fulfills a promise he made during a visit to the site shortly after the incident.
At the time, Governor Yusuf pledged to reconstruct the mosque and bring solace to the affected community.
“This approval is a direct demonstration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s integrity and commitment to match words with action. It shows that his leadership is anchored on responsiveness, sincerity, and service to the people,” Waiya stated.
Residents of Tiga Gadan have welcomed the decision with joy and appreciation. Many described it as a rare gesture of responsible governance and leadership.
“This action is indeed honourable. It is more than anything we expected. The governor has shown once again that he is a man of his word,” a local resident said.
Community leaders also called on residents to support the project and ensure its safety during and after construction. The government urged locals to remain vigilant and protect the new facilities when completed.
Governor Yusuf, who has consistently positioned his administration as people-focused and inclusive, has continued to implement developmental projects across various sectors in the state, earning praise from residents and political observers alike.
