Northwest University Kano has recorded a major academic breakthrough following the approval of additional undergraduate and postgraduate programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The approval was announced by the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero who described the development as a significant milestone in the university drive toward academic growth and innovation.
According to a statement issued by the institution, the approval followed a successful resource assessment and verification exercise conducted by the NUC, which confirmed the university’s readiness to commence the new programmes.
The approval was conveyed in an official letter dated February 26, 2026, with reference number NUC/AP/S37/VOL.1/25, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor.
The Commission stated that the newly approved programmes would run in full-time mode at the university Main Campus beginning from the 2026/2027 academic session.
The newly approved undergraduate programmes are B.Sc Physics with Electronics, B.Sc Industrial Physics, B.Sc Broadcasting, B.Sc Development and Communication Studies, B.Sc Information and Media Studies, B.Sc Journalism and Media Studies and B.Sc Applied Geophysics.
At the postgraduate level, the university also secured approval for M.Ed Philosophy of Education and Ph.D Philosophy of Education.
Professor Bayero said the achievement stands among the key successes recorded within her few months in office, noting that it reflects her administration commitment to expanding academic opportunities, promoting innovation and aligning the institution with global best practices.
She further assured members of the university community and the public that the management would continue to strengthen both human and material resources to sustain quality delivery and ensure the long-term success of the programmes.
Observers say the latest development underscores the steady progress of Northwest University Kano under Professor Bayero leadership and reinforces its growing reputation as a centre of excellence in higher education.
