The Sokoto State Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate the Maulud celebration.
In a statement issued by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, Governor Ahmed Aliyu urged the people of the state to use the occasion to promote peaceful coexistence, unity and brotherhood among Nigerians.
The governor also called on Muslims to use the Maulud celebration to teach the younger generation about the outstanding qualities of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), including patience, generosity, trustworthiness and good neighbourliness.
While felicitating Muslims across the globe on this year’s celebration, Governor Aliyu urged Muslims in the state to use the occasion to pray fervently for Allah’s intervention in the insecurity affecting some parts of the state.
According to him, insecurity in the country continues to pose serious threats to efforts by the Federal and State Governments to improve the living conditions of ordinary citizens.
“At our own level, we have done our best and will continue to provide the necessary support to our security agencies in their fight against banditry in the state,” he added.
The governor therefore called on the people of the state to continue to support his administration in its efforts to build a prosperous and secure future for Sokoto State.
Maulud is observed annually by Muslims around the world to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
