From Muawiya Bala Idris, Katsina
A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, has called on the Federal Government to hasten the completion of the Jare Earth Dam in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Dabai, who represents Danja/Bakori Federal Constituency, said the contractors handling the project have abandoned it for many years.
While presenting a motion on the floor of the House, Dabai expressed concern over the non-completion of the project, describing it as a serious challenge to the people of Bakori Local Government Area.
“Construction of the earth dam was awarded at the cost of N10 billion. Work started in earnest but was later abandoned by the contractors,” Dabai said.
He noted that the completion of the project would enhance agricultural activities and improve the livelihoods of the people.
According to him, “The earth dam, if completed, will not only provide water to communities but will also enhance irrigation activities and generate income for farmers.”
Dabai also called on the Federal Ministry of Water Resources to investigate the reasons behind the non-completion of the project and ensure its inclusion in the next budget.
In response, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, referred the matter to the relevant committees for further legislative action.
