The Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, has charged officers of the Command to uphold professionalism, discipline and impartiality in the discharge of their duties, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Faniyan gave the charge on Thursday during the Command’s monthly conference with officers at the Police Officers’ Mess in Jos.
The meeting was part of the Commissioner’s efforts to strengthen operational effectiveness, promote institutional accountability and improve security across the state.
During the conference, the CP reviewed the operational successes and challenges recorded within the period under review and outlined strategies to improve performance.
Addressing the officers, Faniyan reiterated the need for strict compliance with directives of the Inspector-General of Police and adherence to internationally recognised policing standards.
He emphasised that effective policing requires discipline, vigilance, sound judgment and strict compliance with established operational procedures and the rule of law.
The Commissioner charged officers to demonstrate professionalism and impartiality, respect citizens’ fundamental rights and remain accountable for their actions.
He warned that unprofessional conduct, including incivility, extortion, brutality, abuse of authority and other forms of misconduct, would not be tolerated.
Faniyan also stressed the importance of timely intelligence gathering, rapid response to security threats, effective command and control, and stronger engagement with communities.
He urged officers at all levels to intensify efforts towards crime prevention and detection while ensuring that policing interventions remain lawful, proportionate and responsive to security challenges in their respective areas of responsibility.
The CP further called on officers to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force and sustain public confidence through integrity, professionalism, transparency and respect for human dignity.
Ember Months, 2027 Elections
In view of the Ember Months period, Faniyan directed Area and Squadron Commanders, as well as Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies to sustain peace across Plateau State.
He also charged officers to remain strictly apolitical, impartial and professional ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Commissioner warned against partisan policing, misuse of police authority and any conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the electoral process.
He emphasised that the Command would provide a secure environment for lawful political activities while ensuring that individuals and political groups are treated fairly and in accordance with the law.
The Plateau State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a safe environment for all.
It also encouraged members of the public to support the Police by providing timely, credible and actionable information that could assist in addressing security challenges.
