In a major boost to security and professional education in Nigeria, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 10 new postgraduate programmes for the Nigeria Police Academy.
The approval followed a comprehensive assessment by an NUC resource verification team, which recently visited the Academy to evaluate its facilities, learning resources, and the readiness of its academic staff.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Umar Musa Isah, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
According to the statement, the verification team approved the introduction of the specialised postgraduate programmes after confirming that the institution met the required standards.
The 10 approved programmes, which will run on a full-time basis, include:
Master’s in Crime Management, Prevention and Control (MCM)
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Crime Management, Prevention and Control
PGD in Peace and Conflict Studies
PGD in Police Studies
Master of Business Administration and Entrepreneurship (MBA)
M.Sc. in Management Studies
Master of Laws (LL.M)
M.Sc. in Biochemistry
M.Sc. in Financial Economics and
M.Sc. in Forensic and DNA Studies
The statement added that while the Nigeria Police Academy has traditionally focused on enhancing the knowledge and professional competence of senior police officers, the institution will now broaden access to its postgraduate programmes.
The programmes will be open to personnel from other security and intelligence agencies, as well as qualified members of the general public.
Further details on application procedures, admission requirements, registration, and deadlines will be announced in due course.
