From Joseph Asegba, Yola
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has described agriculture as the backbone of the state’s economy, attributing its strength to the vast expanse of fertile land and enormous agricultural potential across the state.
Governor Fintiri made the remark on Monday while flagging off the distribution of fertilisers at a 50 per cent subsidy for the 2026 farming season at the Adamawa State Agricultural Mechanisation Authority in Yola.
He urged farmers to make judicious use of the subsidised fertilisers, warning against their sale, hoarding or diversion, stressing that the inputs were procured solely to support genuine farmers, boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food security.
“The fertilisers are for farmers’ use and not for sale. They are intended to boost crop yields and improve food production across the state,” the governor said.
Fintiri warned distributors and beneficiaries that anyone found selling, hoarding or diverting the fertilisers would face appropriate sanctions, insisting that the inputs must be used strictly for farming activities.
The governor officially launched the distribution of the fertilisers to farmers across the 21 local government areas of the state through recognised farmers’ associations for the ongoing 2026 farming season.
He noted that Adamawa is richly endowed with fertile land and abundant agricultural resources, making farming one of the state’s major economic drivers.
According to him, the procurement of the subsidised fertilisers underscores his administration’s commitment to supporting farmers, increasing food production and ensuring food security for residents of Adamawa and neighbouring states.
Governor Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to sustain policies and programmes that will strengthen the agricultural sector, improve farmers’ livelihoods and promote sustainable economic growth through agriculture.
