The Kano State House of Assembly has passed into law the State Economic Planning and Development Council Bill 2026, aimed at strengthening economic planning, coordination and development across the state.
The Bill was passed during the House plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
Briefing journalists after the session, the Majority Leader of the House and Member representing Dala Constituency, Hon.
Lawan Husaini, said the Council would be responsible for formulating programmes for the state’s economic development and coordinating activities between the state government and the 44 local government areas.
According to him, the Council will be chaired by the State Executive Governor and comprise five commissioners overseeing Budget and Planning, Finance, Education and Justice, as well as the chairmen of the 44 local government councils and five eminent personalities with expertise and experience in education and economic affairs.
Hon. Husaini further explained that the Kano State Economic Planning and Development Council Law is designed to address youth unemployment, improve revenue generation and revitalise manufacturing activities in order to promote the socio-economic development of the state.
The House also received a letter from the State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, seeking its approval to screen and confirm Hajiya Uwa Bello Makama and Alhaji Ahmad Auwalu Ibrahim as members of the Kano State Judicial Service Commission to fill vacant positions.
The House is expected to commence the necessary legislative process for the screening and consideration of the nominees in accordance with the provisions of the law.
