From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
The Managing Director of the Sokoto State Media Corporation (SSMC), Alhaji Labaran Lumo Dundaye, the Sardaunan Dundaye, has launched a multi-million-naira empowerment scheme for 300 indigent persons across three districts of Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The event took place on Sunday in Dundaye town, the headquarters of Dundaye District in Wamakko Local Government Area.
The programme featured the distribution of cash to beneficiaries to alleviate their hardship, promote self-reliance and improve their livelihoods.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dundaye, who is also a large-scale farmer, said the initiative was designed to reduce poverty, promote economic independence and complement the efforts of the Sokoto State Government under Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
He explained that the beneficiaries were carefully selected based on their needs and vulnerability, adding that the financial support would help them become more productive and economically independent.
“The essence of this scheme is to give back to society and empower our people to be self-sufficient. We believe that empowering 300 people today means empowering 300 families,” Dundaye said.
He commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for creating an enabling environment for such interventions and called on other well-meaning individuals and corporate organisations to emulate the gesture.
Several dignitaries also spoke at the event, which was described by participants as an initiative aimed at strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
They included the Senior Special Assistant to the APC National Chairman on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi, a veteran journalist, and Alhaji Sirajo Hungumawa, Manager of the Online Media Unit in the ICT Department of the Sokoto State Media Corporation.
Others were the Chairman of Wamakko Local Government Area, Alhaji Umar Ahmed Dundaye; Alhaji Sani Dalla-Dalla, Assistant Financial Secretary of the APC in Sokoto State; and the APC Chairman in Wamakko Local Government Area, Alhaji Umaru Nabara, among others.
The speakers commended Dundaye for the initiative, saying it would help alleviate the hardship faced by the beneficiaries.
Some beneficiaries also expressed gratitude to the SSMC managing director, describing the intervention as timely and beneficial.
They pledged to use the financial assistance judiciously to improve their livelihoods.
