The Kano State Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, has urged Muslims, particularly youths, to emulate the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad as he attended an annual Maulud gathering in Kano, where he rewarded Qur’anic graduates with ₦20,000 each.
Garo made the call on Saturday night while representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the event organised by a former Kano Municipal Local Government Area chairman and former Commissioner for Special Duties, Muntari Ishaq Yakasai.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Deputy Governor’s Public Relations Officer, Lurwanu Idris Malikawa Garu, Garo said the significance of the Maulud gathering should go beyond the celebration, urging Muslims to practise the Prophet’s teachings and exemplary morals in their daily lives.
He said the Prophet’s life exemplified righteousness, piety, kindness and respect for parents, urging Muslims to uphold these values, show compassion to their neighbours and give to charity.
The deputy governor added that adherence to the Prophet’s teachings would promote success in this world and the Hereafter.
He commended Yakasai for sustaining the annual Maulud gathering, which he said had remained a family tradition for more than 30 years.
Garo prayed that Allah would continue to provide the family with the strength and resources to sustain the tradition for generations to come.
Speaking earlier, Yakasai thanked the deputy governor for attending the event, saying Islamic scholars had consistently emphasised the importance of acquiring knowledge about how to honour and respect Prophet Muhammad.
He said promoting such knowledge and deepening understanding of the Prophet’s status and teachings were among the reasons for organising the annual gathering.
