Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim of the Adamawa Television Corporation (ATV) has emerged the new Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, by pulling 123 against 45 votes in Yola.
Ibrahim worned his closest contender, Fidelis Jockthan of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (Fombina FM).
The election was supervised by the Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Comrade Yunusa Abdullahi of the Information Chapel, 3 members of the committee.
After accreditation of 171 delegates three votes were declared invalid, to he election was freely contested.
Earlier, there were three chairmanship contestants with Samuel Gangwaja of ATV Yola, who withdrew from the race.
All other positions were filled unopposed this include,
Nuwamayinah Iddah as Vice Chairman, Kisinja Bukar as Secretary, Mary Adamu as Assistant Secretary, Joy Diamond Leka as Treasurer, Owolabi Adenus as Financial Secretary and Hadiza Aliyu Mahmud as Auditor General
After all constitutional rights been concluded an oath of office was administered by Barr. Sunday Wugira, who ushered in the new council executives.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim expressed gratitude to members of the union for the confidence reposed in him and his team. He said the outcome was as a surprise and a testament to his integrity and sincerity of purpose.
Ibrahim pledged to serve diligently and justify the mandate given to him over the next three years.
However, the peaceful conduct of the election was lauded by both observers and participants, the’s a new chapter for NUJ in Adamawa State.
