The Director of Sports of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, Abdulsalam Abubakar Shandy, has applauded participating faculties for their support and cooperation in the ongoing inter-faculty sports competition tagged the “Vice Chancellor Cup.”
Abdulsalam Abubakar Shandy gave the commendation during the opening ceremony of the games held on the university’s premises.
The Director said the tournament, which is an annual event organised by the Sports Directorate, is aimed not only at discovering hidden talents but also at strengthening the existing cordial relationship among students, coaches, staff, and the university management.
Abubakar, who was a former player of Jigawa Golden Stars Football Club of Dutse and ex-Chief Coach of Calabar United of Cross River State, expressed appreciation to the university management, led by Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, for its support. He urged students to utilise the competition to develop and improve their skills for future local and national championships.
“As we approach the next edition of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games, scheduled to hold in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, in November this year, all hands must be on deck to prepare well and aim to make an impact at the championships,” the Director explained.
He assured that the Sports Directorate would use the inter-faculty games to select the best players ahead of the zonal preliminaries and the NUGA Games proper.
He added that six faculties would compete in the beach volleyball tournament: the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Agriculture, Science and Technology Education (FASTE), Faculty of Science (FASCI), Faculty of Environmental Sciences (FAEES), Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences (FACMS), Faculty of Agriculture and Allied Technology (FAAT), and Faculty of Engineering (FAENG).
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour at the closing ceremony of the competition.
