The 2026 edition of the Arewa Islamic Finance Forum (AIFF) Conference was successfully held in Kano, bringing together stakeholders, policymakers, financial experts, and business leaders to advance the development and adoption of Islamic finance in Nigeria.
The annual conference, organized by IFING Media, focused on promoting Islamic finance as a viable tool for economic development, financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, and poverty reduction.
Speaking during the event, the Managing Director of IFING Media, Mudathir Adesanya, said the organization remains committed to promoting awareness and acceptance of Islamic finance across the country.
He noted that the annual conference is part of ongoing efforts to educate Nigerians on the benefits of the non-interest financial system and its potential to drive sustainable national development.
Also speaking, Mallam Ali Abdu Shariffai emphasized the importance of embracing Islamic finance, describing it as an effective mechanism for reducing poverty, empowering entrepreneurs, and strengthening the nation’s economy.
He urged governments, financial institutions, and the public to support policies that encourage the growth of the sector.
One of the highlights of the conference was the presentation of awards to distinguished individuals and institutions that have contributed significantly to the growth of Islamic finance and entrepreneurship in Nigeria.
Among the award recipients was Abdulmalik Shehu Mahdi, Managing Director of Modern Shelter System and Services Nigeria Limited, who was recognized for his outstanding support for entrepreneurship and economic development.
Other recipients included the Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council and the Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Responding after receiving his award, Abdulmalik Shehu Mahdi called on the governors of Nigeria’s 36 states to embrace and promote Islamic finance education.
According to him, wider adoption of the system would enhance financial inclusion, stimulate investment, create employment opportunities, and contribute to sustainable economic growth across the country.
The conference concluded with a renewed commitment by stakeholders to deepen awareness, strengthen collaboration, and expand the reach of Islamic finance as a catalyst for national development.
