The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has reiterated that police bail is free, warning members of the public against offering bribes to police officers to secure bail.
The commissioner also cautioned that anyone who offers a bribe to influence police officers in the handling of a case would face appropriate legal action.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpha Akata, the commissioner addressed the issue on October 15, 2026, at the Command Headquarters following a question raised by the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ogoja Branch.
The commissioner also spoke against attempts by parties involved in police matters to pressure officers through financial inducements, warning that both the demand for and offer of bribes would not be tolerated.
CP Ordue gave the warning while interacting with key stakeholders during his familiarisation tour of the Ogoja Area Command.
He urged members of the public to understand that bail is free and to report any police officer who demands money before granting bail.
The Command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability and the enforcement of the law.
