A prominent resident of Bichi, Alhaji Aminu Abdurrahman Bichi, has appealed to the member representing Bichi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Engr. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar Bichi, to rehabilitate and reclaim the long-neglected Sarari Pond located behind the Bichi Emirate Palace.
Speaking in an interview with journalists in Calabar, Alhaji Abdurrahman said the project would improve public health and the environment by eliminating mosquitoes and other harmful habitats around the pond.
“It is important to draw the attention of the public to the need for this project and the wisdom behind it.
“We are confident that Hon. Kabir Bichi, given his commitment to development, will come to our rescue. By the grace of Allah, the neglected pond behind the Bichi Emirate Palace will become a thing of the past,” he said.
He praised the lawmaker for what he described as numerous developmental projects across the constituency, particularly in the education sector.
According to him, Hon. Kabir Bichi has paid school and examination fees for students from secondary schools to tertiary institutions, including beneficiaries pursuing first and second degrees.
He also noted that the lawmaker has constructed primary schools in different parts of the local government area.
Alhaji Abdurrahman further commended the legislator for promoting sports development through the construction of a mini stadium at Hagagawa football pitch.
He also highlighted the lawmaker’s agricultural support programmes, saying farmers have benefited from the distribution of tractors and other farming equipment to boost agricultural productivity.
In addition, he said Hon. Kabir Bichi has constructed more than 200 affordable houses in Bichi to address accommodation challenges.
Other achievements he listed include the distribution of subsidised fertiliser and food items to residents.
Alhaji Abdurrahman commended the lawmaker for his developmental strides and expressed hope that the Sarari Pond rehabilitation project would also receive prompt attention.
