The Cross River State Police Command, in partnership with Street Priests, has taken its public awareness campaign to major streets across the state to educate and sensitise residents on the dangers and consequences of jungle justice while promoting lawful and responsible ways of responding to suspected criminal activities.
The Command stressed that every suspect is entitled to due process under the law and urged citizens to play their part in building a safer society by reporting crimes to the appropriate security agencies rather than resorting to mob action.
It noted that taking the law into one’s own hands undermines the justice system, threatens public safety, and can result in the loss of innocent lives.
The Command called for collective action in promoting peace, justice, and respect for the rule of law.
“Together, let us choose justice over violence, the rule of law over revenge, and peace over chaos,” the police stated.
The Command further warned members of the public to reject jungle justice, saying: “Say no to jungle justice. Protect lives. Uphold the law.”
