The Emir of Gombe, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, has assured continued support for sponsors and organisers of sports activities in the emirate.
The Emir made this commitment during the closing ceremony of the maiden edition of the Gombe State Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics and Principal Cup Competition, held at Pantami Stadium.
Represented by Dan Adalan Gombe, Alhaji Muhammad Baba Mabani, the Emir commended Hon. Ahmad Shuaibu Gara Gombe, the competition’s sponsor, for his dedication to promoting sports in the state.
In his remarks, the Emir highlighted the importance of the championship in discovering and nurturing young athletic talents, ensuring their readiness for national and international competitions. “This initiative will greatly enhance the skills of our youth and uncover hidden talents for the future,” he said.
The Emirate Council pledged its unwavering support for such initiatives, which aim to inspire individuals like Hon. Gara to continue contributing to the development of the community and the state.
While congratulating the winners of the five-day championship for their achievements, the Emir encouraged the participating schools that did not win to work harder in future editions of the competition.
In a significant gesture during the event, the Emir was conferred with the title of Lifetime Patron of the competition by Hon. Gara Gombe, marking the highlight of the closing ceremony.
The Triumph gathered that the event served as a platform to promote grassroots sports development in Gombe State, aligning with the broader goal of fostering unity and growth among the youth.
