Tragedy trucked a family of five people from the same family after consuming a soup prepared with a local fertilizer popularly known as Gishirin lalle.
The incident happened in Kaurar Wanke village of Shagari local government in Sokoto State on Thursday.
Confirming the incident, State Commissioner for Health Asabe Balarabe said the tragedy occurred on the fateful day when the victims consumed the Soup prepared with the substance, mistaking it for seasoning.
According to her, three of the victims died on Friday, while the remaining two died in her presence at Specialist Hospital Sokoto on Sunday.
She however said the remaining two victims are currently receiving treatment at the specialist hospital, in Sokoto
Balarabe explained that on receiving the report while in Abuja for an official engagement and immediately directed the Directors concerned to act on the matter to save the lives of the victims.
The Commissioner maintained that, despite the effort made by the ministry, the victims lost their lives as the substance had already harmed them resulting in their passing away.
She, however, said the Corpses of the two victims who died at Specialist Hospital Sokoto had already been conveyed to their village for burial as enshrined by Islam.
While sympathizing with the families of the victims, I advised people to keep poisonous chemicals from easy reach, separate storage sites for food items from other agricultural and cosmetic items, and carefully check all ingredients of foodstuff before use.
Speaking on the incident, one of the relatives of the victims, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, thanked the Commissioner for her concern and intervention and prayed to Allah to reward her abundantly.
“Since the incident, the Commissioner and her directors have been at their best from the village to the hospital, which he described as worthy of note”.
Also Speaking, the Chief Medical Director of Specialist Hospital Sokoto, Dr Attahiru Isah Sokoto described the incident as the will of Allah and prayed to him to forgive the deceased all their mistakes and give their families the courage to bear the irreparable loss.
