Former Kaduna State Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Kaduna North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yero emerged victorious at the APC senatorial primary election held on Monday in Zaria, defeating two other aspirants by a wide margin.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Hassan Saleh, said Yero polled 6,060 votes, while Muhammad Mu’azu Mukaddas secured 1,044 votes and Yusuf Bala Ikara scored 372 votes.
“Having satisfied the requirements of the law, I hereby declare Mukhtar Ramalan Yero as the winner of this election,” Saleh stated.
Yero served as Governor of Kaduna State from December 15, 2012, to May 29, 2015, following the death of former governor, Patrick Yakowa, in a helicopter crash in Bayelsa State.
Before becoming governor, Yero served as Deputy Governor between 2010 and 2012, and as Commissioner for Finance from 2007 to 2010.
In the 2015 governorship election, he lost his re-election bid to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai.
Speaking shortly after his declaration as winner, Yero commended the peaceful conduct of the primary election and urged other aspirants and party stakeholders to unite in order to secure APC’s victory in the 2027 general elections.
He also expressed appreciation to delegates, supporters, and party leaders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to provide “quality representation” for the people of Kaduna North Senatorial District if elected.
