The Mangal Foundation has funded medical treatment worth over N257 million for no fewer than 21,000 vulnerable patients in Katsina State from 2016 to date, its Board of Trustees member, Alhaji Hassan Kabir, has disclosed.

He spoke in Katsina during the screening exercise for patients with eye conditions, where hundreds benefitted from free medical assessment and medication.

Kabir said the humanitarian interventions, which cut across various ailments, were part of the foundation’s commitment to easing the financial burden of healthcare on poor households.

According to him, the foundation has so far funded treatment for about 3,000 urology patients, at a cost exceeding N140 million.

He added that over 17,000 patients with eye problems had also received medical care, with the foundation spending more than N30 million on the interventions.

Kabir further explained that more than 1,000 patients suffering from hernia and hydrocele benefited from surgeries funded by the foundation, which committed not less than N87 million to their care.

“Patients with minor ailments were examined, treated, given free drugs and discharged,” he said. “Those requiring surgery had their operations fully funded by the foundation, including all associated expenses until discharge.”

He noted that the foundation had engaged some of the country’s leading medical teams and procured high-quality drugs and equipment to ensure the success of the interventions.

Kabir said the Mangal Foundation, established in 2016, was committed to supporting vulnerable groups through healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.

“Since inception, it has also sponsored thousands of surgical procedures for patients from neighbouring states and even Niger Republic. Our aim is to ease the financial burden of healthcare for vulnerable individuals who struggle to meet basic needs,” he added.

An ophthalmic nurse at the Katsina Eye Centre, Malam Ibrahim Lawal-Rabo, commended the initiative, describing it as timely given the current economic hardship in the country.

He said the philanthropic gesture complements government efforts and helps bridge critical gaps in healthcare delivery for underserved communities.

Some beneficiaries also expressed gratitude to the foundation and urged government agencies, private organisations, and wealthy individuals to emulate its humanitarian support for the poor.
