The Chairman of Gombe South Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Auwalu Jauro Bappi, has pledged to prioritise the welfare and security of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the council.
Bappi said his administration remained committed to supporting the NYSC scheme and ensuring that corps members carry out their national assignment in a safe and conducive environment.
The chairman made the pledge when the Gombe State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Chinwe Nenna Nwachuku, and her management team paid a courtesy visit to the council.
The delegation was jointly received by the Chairman of Gombe North Local Government Council, Prof. Bappah Garkuwa.
Mrs Nwachuku congratulated the two council chairmen on their elections and commended the continued support their councils had provided to the NYSC scheme, describing it as vital to the smooth implementation of the programme.
She expressed optimism that the existing partnership between the NYSC and the two councils would continue to grow, noting that sustained collaboration would promote youth development, national integration and community service in Gombe State.
Responding, Bappi assured the NYSC leadership that his administration would continue to provide the necessary support to enable corps members to serve effectively and safely.
He noted that corps members had made significant contributions to education, healthcare, agriculture and other sectors, describing their efforts as essential to grassroots development.
“The NYSC has continued to play a vital role in national development by deploying young graduates to communities where their services are needed most.
As a council, we will continue to support the scheme and ensure corps members posted to Gombe South are adequately protected and encouraged to give their best,” Bappi said.
The chairman wished corps members serving in the council a peaceful, productive and rewarding service year.
The meeting was attended by the deputy chairmen of Gombe South LCDA and Gombe North Local Government Council, councillors, senior government officials and members of the NYSC management team.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in promoting national unity, youth empowerment and sustainable grassroots development through the NYSC scheme.
