From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
The three-year achievements recorded by the APC-led administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu in Sokoto State surpass those of the immediate past administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the State Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi Adare, has said.
Adare made the assertion while speaking to journalists in Sokoto on Friday as Nigeria marked its 66th Independence Anniversary.
According to him, the achievements recorded by the Ahmed Aliyu administration in three years, particularly in terms of infrastructure and dividends of democracy, cannot be compared with those of the previous administration during its eight years in office.
“If you are looking at achievements and dividends of democracy, this government has done its best,” he said.
The Commissioner also appealed to the people of Sokoto State to support the APC and vote for its candidates from the presidential level down to councillors in the 2027 elections.
He said such support would enable the government to sustain the socio-economic development being recorded in the state and the country.
On infrastructure, Adare commended the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ongoing road projects, particularly the Illela-Badagry road and the Sokoto-Gusau road.
He said the projects would improve socio-economic activities by facilitating the movement of farm produce, access to markets and schools, while also contributing to improved security and human capital development.
On security, the Commissioner said the Federal Government had been collaborating with the state government to strengthen security, including the training of forest guards.
He added that the military, police and civil defence authorities had continued to collaborate with the state government to protect lives and property.
Adare said Governor Ahmed Aliyu had remained committed to the Nine-Point Smart Innovative Agenda he presented to the people during his campaign.
He listed education among the areas where the administration had recorded achievements, including the renovation, construction and rehabilitation of schools across the state.
According to him, the governor has also restored cash allocations to secondary schools, enabling principals to undertake minor repairs after a long period without such funding.
In the religious sector, Adare said the government had renovated and constructed mosques, while also providing monthly allowances to Imams and Muazzins and supporting less privileged people and internally displaced persons.
He said the state government had also purchased fertiliser worth billions of naira, alongside chemicals and improved seeds, which were distributed free of charge to farmers across the state.
On security, the Commissioner said the state government had purchased more than 300 vehicles and provided monthly logistics support to security agencies.
He, however, urged residents to remain vigilant and pray for continued peace, stressing that district heads, village heads and local government chairmen had important roles to play in identifying suspicious activities.
Adare also expressed concern over the activities of informants who, according to him, provide information about villages and settlements to bandits for financial gain.
He said other achievements of the administration included the beautification and desilting of Sokoto metropolis and communities across the 23 local government areas, construction of roads, including rural roads, transportation support and improved water supply.
He said more than 250 solar-powered boreholes had been drilled across communities in the state.
The Commissioner attributed the administration’s achievements to the support, prayers and guidance of the APC leader in Sokoto State, Distinguished Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
He described Wamakko as a father and teacher, praying for him to be blessed with good health and long life.
Ahead of the 2027 elections, Adare urged residents to continue praying for and supporting the state government to enable it to consolidate its achievements.
