The Kano State Government has commissioned a Quick Response Squad of the Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as part of efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf inaugurated the facility on Thursday, reiterating his administration’s commitment to reducing drug abuse to the barest minimum.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
Speaking at the event, Yusuf said drug abuse had significantly reduced in the state and commended the chairman and members of the task force for their efforts.
“I am the happiest man in Kano today as we continue to push drug abuse down to the barest minimum,” the governor said.
He added that people apprehended by the task force would undergo skill acquisition and apprenticeship programmes to engage them in productive activities and reduce the risk of returning to drug use or illicit activities.
Yusuf, accompanied by the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismaila Falgore, and other government officials, inspected the newly commissioned facility.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the task force, commending its members for what he described as their achievements within a short period.
