The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Sunday flagged off the distribution of fertiliser to farmers across the state’s 44 local government areas, offering the input at a 50 per cent discount to boost food production.
The governor, who spoke at the Al-Yuma Fertilizer Plant in Madobi Local Government Area, said three trucks of fertiliser were allocated to each local government, totaling 79,200 bags. Each truck contains 600 bags of fertiliser.
The initiative, according to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, was part of efforts to support farmers during the 2025 wet season and ensure food security in the state.
“We gathered here today not just to distribute bags of fertiliser, but to plant the seeds of self-reliance, economic prosperity, and collective dignity,” the governor said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reviving the agricultural sector, adding that, “Over the last two years, we have expanded access to farmland and irrigation facilities. We have successfully rehabilitated major irrigation schemes, awarded new projects across 11 local governments, and brought over 1,250 hectares under development.”
Yusuf also disclosed that the construction of a dam at Dansoshiya in Kiru Local Government Area was ongoing, describing it as “a landmark in our quest for year-round farming.”
He expressed optimism that the 50 per cent subsidised fertiliser would enhance food production, promote economic growth, and improve food security across the state.
