Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has hailed the Department of State Services (DSS) for swiftly apprehending five suspects involved in the abduction and brutal murder of a one-year-old girl, Sakina Mamuda, in Duhun Bake village, Gwarzo Local Government Area.
In a statement on Thursday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf commended the DSS for its decisive intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of the suspects who abducted the child, demanded ransom from her family, and later killed her in cold blood—dumping her remains in an abandoned open well.
The arrested suspects—Zailani Rabiu, Hafizu Yusuf, Abubakar Abdulkareem, Umar Lawan, and Amadu Salisu—are all from the same community as the victim. They are currently being investigated for criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, and homicide.
Speaking at a joint press briefing at Government House, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, alongside the Commissioner for Information and other senior officials, reaffirmed the government’s resolve to ensure justice is served swiftly and thoroughly in this tragic case.
Governor Yusuf, visibly distressed by the heinous crime, praised the DSS and other security agencies for their prompt and effective response. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening intelligence gathering, enhancing security logistics, and fostering inter-agency collaboration.
“This senseless tragedy has shaken us to the core,” the Governor said. “I commend the DSS for acting swiftly and decisively. We will continue to prioritize the safety of our people and ensure that those who threaten our peace are brought to justice.”
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, assuring the public of continued government investment in security operations across the state.
The incident has sparked public outrage and widespread calls for justice, particularly for stronger protections for children and harsher penalties for those who commit such heinous crimes.
