More than 400 Yantallah girls under the Kano State Agency for Mass Education are set to graduate and receive empowerment support as part of the Kano State Government’s efforts to promote education and improve the livelihoods of citizens.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr. Binta Abubakar, disclosed this in an interview with our reporter while highlighting the achievements of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration in the education sector during his three years in office.
Dr. Binta commended Governor Yusuf’s leadership style, describing it as people-oriented and focused on improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
She called on other state governors to emulate his approach to governance, particularly in prioritising education and grassroots development.
According to her, the Agency for Mass Education has witnessed significant transformation since the coming of the present administration.
She explained that the number of learning centres under the agency has increased from 63 to over 100, expanding access to education for more people across the state.
She said the governor’s commitment to tackling illiteracy has yielded positive results, with increased enrolment of out-of-school children and the inclusion of various groups, including community members and grassroots residents, in the mass education programme.
Dr. Binta noted that the administration’s educational policy has also extended to security personnel, including vigilantes, who are being encouraged to acquire Western education alongside their Islamic knowledge.
She added that personnel from the 44 local government areas, as well as Hisbah members, are among those benefiting from the programme and will soon sit for Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
She further revealed that the agency has established an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre to equip learners with digital skills. The centre has already produced its first batch of 50 graduates who completed computer training programmes.
The Executive Secretary emphasised that the achievements recorded in the mass education sector demonstrate the administration’s commitment to providing inclusive education opportunities for all categories of citizens.
She appealed to the people of Kano State to continue supporting Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, expressing hope that his administration would be given another mandate to continue its development programmes in the state.
