Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, has inaugurated the Governing Board of Abdullahi Fodio Science and Technology University, Aliero.
Inaugurating the board at Government House, Birnin Kebbi, on Friday, the governor urged the new members to be committed to their responsibilities.
He recalled that the immediate past board was dissolved following a protracted crisis that threatened the growth and development of the institution.
According to the governor, the lingering crisis compelled the state government to dissolve the council and remove the then Vice-Chancellor.
Emphasising the pedigree and reputation of the new board chairman, Gov. Idris said the state government carefully selected the right person to actualise the university’s mission and vision.
“You all know Prof. Ka’oje. He is a renowned scholar and was the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of this university.
“Therefore, today, July 4, 2026, we are inaugurating the Governing Board of Abdullahi Fodio University.
“I pray the board members will remain united and support Prof. Mohammed Abubakar Ka’oje to achieve the set goals and objectives of the university,” he added.
While congratulating the appointees, the governor reminded them: “This university belongs to us, and we should not expect outsiders to come and fix it for us.”
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida listed the new Governing Board members of of the university chaired by Prof. Mohammed Abubakar Ka’oje to include four representatives from the University’s Senate, two from Congregation, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research.
Other members according to the SSG, are one representative each from the three Senatorial District of the state, one representative each from Ministry for Higher Education and Ministry of Justice, one representative from the National Universities Commission (NUC), while the Registrar of the institution would serve as the Secretary of the board.
Responding, the Board Chairman, Prof. Mohammed Abubakar Ka’oje, thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them.
He pledged on behalf of the members to work diligently to reposition the university for greater development.
“I have a strong team, and we will work collectively to deliver. We need your support and cooperation to discharge our duties effectively.
“On behalf of other members, I pledge that we will not disappoint you. I have absolute confidence in my team, and we shall work together for the success of the university,” he added.
