The National Association of Northern Nigerian Students (NANNS) has conferred an Award of Excellence on the Sokoto State Commissioner of Environment, Hon. Nura Shehu Tangaza.
NANNS described Tangaza as a philanthropist, who has for a long period assisted indigenes of the state with educational scholarships for the continuation of their educational programs.
Speaking during the award ceremony held at the Commissioner’s office, Shehu Kangiwa Secretariat Sokoto, the team leader stated that it was in the tradition of the student body to honour and associate with stakeholders and elders from the region who had distinguished themselves as icons in their various fields of endeavour including awarding those assisting the youths in various ways.
Responding, the commissioner expressed gratitude to the association for finding him worthy of the award, admitting that “yes, he does offer financial assistance and scholarship to some selected and hardworking students who desire to continue with their educational programs especially those who face financial challenges while pursuing their academic programmes at various levels.
The Commissioner further testified that “he too was once assisted by someone while pursuing his academic programme at the university level”, therefore he has every reason to continue assisting others up to the present moment.
According to him, he has a passion and interest in assisting youths in need of assistance particularly those who are serious about their educational programmes since he was serving as Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Council in 2016.
According to him, several students mostly youths were financially assisted through his scholarship initiatives (programmes) for them to be able to get to where they wanted to be in the future.
Therefore, according to him; assisting the the youths in the state in areas of education is not a waste but something good towards the educational development of the state in general.
