The Director of School Services at the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSMB), Dr. Sani Haladu, has commended Kano State Governor, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, for what he described as significant strides in the development of education across the state.
Dr. Haladu made the commendation during an interview with journalists at the KSSSMB headquarters in Kano, where he spoke on the achievements of the present administration in the education sector.
According to him, the employment of classroom teachers by the state government has helped address the shortage of teachers in public schools and strengthened the education system.
He said the government had also continued with the renovation of classrooms, provision of instructional and learning materials, as well as the promotion of teachers.
Dr. Haladu further highlighted the retreat organised for principals of secondary schools in the state as another important initiative aimed at strengthening school leadership and improving the professional capacity of education managers.
He said the principals were taken to Kaduna State for a week-long retreat, describing the initiative as a remarkable development that would remain significant in the history of the teaching profession in Kano State.
The Director also noted that both boarding and day secondary schools were benefiting from infrastructural improvements, particularly girls’ secondary schools.
He said several existing secondary schools within the Kano metropolis had been renovated and upgraded under the present administration.
According to him, improvements in electricity and water supply, including the installation of solar power systems, have also been recorded in a number of schools.
Dr. Haladu cited Shekara Secondary School and Government Girls College (GGC), Dala, as examples of schools that had witnessed significant improvements from their previously dilapidated conditions.
He also mentioned Kofar Nassarawa Technical College and Ungogo Technical College among institutions benefiting from the government’s interventions in the education sector.
Dr. Haladu maintained that the various interventions were helping to create a better learning environment for students and improve the working conditions and professional development of teachers across Kano State.
