Erosion has displaced many families and destroyed local wells in Rimi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The chairman of the council, Nu’uman Imam Mahammed, told members of the Correspondents’ Chapel that erosion remains a serious threat to the lives of many residents in the area.
He lamented that the problem has caused water scarcity, as many wells have been destroyed.
“We have a serious problem of erosion. Many families have been displaced and forced to relocate for safety,” he said.
Mahammed further stated that the situation is worst in Alairaini village, where several houses and local wells have been destroyed. He called on the state government to urgently intervene and address the problem.
On flooding, Mahammed said the council has constructed drainages across eleven villages. He added that new culverts were also built to replace those washed away by floods.
The council chairman also disclosed that primary schools in the area have been renovated and equipped with teaching and learning materials.
He commended the state government for providing agricultural facilities free of charge to farmers. He urged the beneficiaries not to sell the facilities but to use them for their intended purpose.
