A coalition of Islamic organisations has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The coalition made its position known when its leaders paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, at his office.
Leading the delegation, Chairman of the coalition, Malam Murtala Adam Sharada, said the group had resolved to mobilise support for the three political leaders in recognition of what it described as their contributions to the development and progress of the people.
Sharada said the coalition would use its platforms and networks to encourage greater political participation while advocating for issues that promote the welfare, peace and development of the society.
Also speaking, the Women Leader of the organisation, Malama Fatima Tsakuwa, pledged the active participation of women in the coalition in efforts to promote unity, peace and responsible political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
She stressed the importance of involving women in political and community development initiatives, saying the group remained committed to supporting programmes that would strengthen peaceful coexistence and social stability.
Responding, Commissioner Waiya appreciated the delegation for the visit and commended the coalition for its expression of support for the political leaders.
Waiya, however, emphasised that political activities should be conducted peacefully and responsibly, urging the organisation to continue promoting dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence among citizens.
The Commissioner said unity among the people remained essential to the progress of Kano State, particularly as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He assured the delegation that the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remained committed to implementing policies and programmes aimed at improving the living conditions of residents and driving sustainable development across the state.
Waiya further called on religious and community organisations to use their influence positively by discouraging violence, intolerance and divisive rhetoric, stressing that peaceful political participation was in the best interest of the people.
The meeting ended with both sides reaffirming the need for continued engagement, unity and peaceful political participation as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
