From Mu’awuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Katsina State House of Assembly has called on the state government to urgently rehabilitate and reconstruct the Shadow–Gozawa–Yanmaulu–Unguwar Rai–Muduri road in Baure Local Government Area.
The resolution followed a motion sponsored by the member representing Baure Constituency, Hon. Sirajo Umar, during plenary.
Presenting the motion, Umar described the 35-kilometre road as being in a deplorable condition, saying it has become a major source of hardship for residents and commuters.
He noted that the poor state of the road has led to frequent accidents, delayed the transportation of farm produce to markets, and hindered the movement of patients to Baure General Hospital.
According to the lawmaker, the road connects several communities with Baure town and serves as a vital route for commercial activities, particularly on market days, as well as for the transportation of agricultural inputs.
“The road links many villages with Baure town. It is a critical route for economic activities and the movement of farm inputs. Reconstructing it will improve security, enhance inter-community relations, and boost the local economy,” he said.
Umar appealed to his colleagues to support the motion, stressing that the project would significantly improve the living conditions of people in the affected communities.
Seconding the motion, the member representing Sabuwa Constituency, Ibrahim Machika, said the reconstruction of the road would ease transportation challenges and promote socio-economic development in the area.
The motion received unanimous support from members of the House.
In his ruling, the Speaker of the House, Nasiru Yahaya, directed the Clerk of the Assembly to communicate the resolution to the executive arm of government for the road project to be considered for inclusion in the state’s next budget.
The Speaker also commended Hon. Sirajo Umar for what he described as his quality representation of the people of Baure Constituency.
