Katsina state government has approved the release of over N18 billion for payment of outstanding gratuity to retired civil servants in the state.
The state Head of Civil Service, Falalu Bawale revealed this while receiving officials of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Katsina branch.
Bawale said the payment is for civil servants who retired between 2020 to 2023.
He explained that N8.052 billion will be paid to civil servants working in various ministries and departments while ₦10.373billon is for retired civil servants m local government and education authorities.
According to him, the Katsina state government has already settled the outstanding gratuity of 2019 inherited from the previous administrations.
He said his office would ensure that any civil servant who retires retiresrvice collects his pension and gratuity without any delay.
He also assured the union to look into the demand to review upward monthly pensions as stipulated by law.
“l assure you the government will look into all your demands to address problems facing your members,” Bawale added.
Earlier speaking, the chairman of the Union, Sirajo Saidu expressed the union’s appreciation to the government for payment of outstanding gratuity.
Saidu called on the Government to review upward monthly given the current economic situation.
He also demand for including members of the Union in the distribution of palliative.
