From Mu’awuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Katsina State House of Assembly has commended the executive arm for subsidizing the price of fertilizer for farmers in the state.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture, Hon. Abubakar Suleiman Tunas, made the commendation during the launch of fertilizer sales to farmers held in Malumfashi Local Government Area.
Tunas, who represented the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Nasiru Daura, noted that subsidizing the commodity would serve as a morale booster to farmers and increase food production.
He said his committee also appreciates the government’s effort in supplying enough fertilizer across 6,652 polling units.
He warned farmers not to sell the commodity in the open market, but to use it for farming.
In his words: “I call on the farmers to utilize the commodity sold to them. They should not sell it to other farmers or in the open market.”
Tunas added that his committee would monitor the sale of the commodity at all ward levels to ensure it reaches genuine farmers.
Earlier, Governor Dikko Umar Radda said his administration had commenced the early sale and distribution of the commodity to prepare farmers for this year’s farming season.
Radda said the government had decentralized the sale and distribution to ensure the commodity reaches all farmers across the state.
The governor, who spoke at length on the achievements of his administration in the area of agriculture, assured farmers of additional agricultural facilities, financial assistance, and moral support.
During the occasion, Radda officially launched the sale of the commodity across the state.
