Katsina state government has re-introduced monthly environmental exercises, which were suspended six years ago.
Speaking while flagging the exercise at Emir Palace, state commissioner of environment, Musa Adamu Funtua said the re-introduction of the exercises was to ensure the cleanliness of the environment and the top outbreak of diseases.
Funtua further said the government has set up a committee with members drawn from the state ministry of environment, the traditional rulers, ulama and security for the success of the exercise at the end of every month.
He warned people pile of states against abiding by the rules of the exercise.
“We are considering setting a tribunal to deal with violators of the exercise” he added.
Earlier, the Executive Director of the state Environmental and Sanitation Agency, Kabir Amoga commended Governor Dikko Radda for the re-introduction of the exercise, assuring its sustenance.
Amoga said the agency has mobilised facilities and manpower for the exercise.
Our correspondent reports that the exercise was attended by representatives of the Emirate Council and other relevant stakeholders.
