The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State following his successful screening.
The decision followed the consideration and adoption of a report submitted by an ad hoc committee constituted to screen the nominee.
The session was presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
Chairman of the committee and Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello, told the House that Garo’s nomination became necessary after the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
Bello noted that the screening was conducted in accordance with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the legislature to confirm a replacement in the event of a vacancy.
He said the nominee was subjected to a detailed screening process, including questions on his academic background, public service experience, grasp of governance, and policy direction for the state.
His credentials, he added, were carefully verified.
According to the committee, Garo exhibited strong capacity for leadership and demonstrated readiness to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in implementing the administration’s policies and programmes.
The House unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendation, with the Speaker putting the motion to a voice vote, leading to Garo’s formal confirmation.
The Assembly reiterated its resolve to sustain collaboration with the executive arm in advancing good governance, transparency, and development across Kano State.
