The Kano State Government has approved projects, programmes and other government commitments valued at ₦144.005 billion as part of decisions reached at the 41st State Executive Council meeting held on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at the Malam Aminu Kano House, Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.
The approvals cover key sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, education, transportation, water supply, power, housing, human capital development, security, cultural development and other areas of public importance with the government describing the decisions as part of its continued efforts to address developmental needs across the state.
The Ministry of Works received the largest allocation of ₦84.975 billion, covering the construction and rehabilitation of major roads, urban link roads, institutional facilities, public buildings and other infrastructure. Major projects include the reconstruction of the Rawul–Gani–Sitti–Masu–Gomo Road in Sumaila at ₦16.689 billion, Zaria Road–Gurjiya–Yankatsari–Rijiyar Gwangwan Road at ₦8.654 billion and additional works on the RMK Flyover–Obasanjo Flyover–Ibb Road–Mazugal Junction–Katsina Road corridor at ₦8.879 billion.
In the education sector, the Council approved ₦14.276 billion for school rehabilitation, provision of furniture and facilities, institutional development and other educational commitments. The approvals include ₦6.118 billion counterpart funding for the UBEC matching grant, ₦2.433 billion for outstanding payments to foodstuff suppliers to boarding schools, as well as renovation and upgrading of several secondary and primary schools across the state.
The health sector was allocated ₦2.608 billion for the rehabilitation, upgrading and equipping of healthcare facilities. Among the major projects are the upgrading of Kibiya and Albasu Primary Healthcare Centres to General Hospitals, at ₦521.9 million and ₦679.3 million respectively, alongside interventions at Shekar Barde Primary Healthcare Centre, Yakasai Zumunta Clinic and Maternity, Karaye Emirate Specialist Hospital and other facilities.
The Council also approved ₦11.063 billion under the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, including ₦4.438 billion for the installation of traffic bollards at strategic locations within Kano metropolis and ₦4.444 billion for reflective materials on streetlights, traffic signs and other roadside infrastructure. The interventions are expected to support traffic management, road safety and improved urban infrastructure.
Under water, environment and climate change, the Council approved ₦2.408 billion, including ₦1.778 billion for the settlement of energy bills to KEDCO and diesel expenses covering May to August 2026.
The Council also approved funds for reinforced concrete fencing at Katsina Road Park and development of Sokoto Road Park, while the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy received ₦1.246 billion for power supply at Tamburawa and Watari Water Treatment Plants and generating sets for Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital.
The Council further approved ₦1.160 billion for the construction of the Phase II perimeter fence and gate at Amana City, while ₦368.7 million was approved for the establishment and equipping of a Women Skills Acquisition Centre at Kofar Ruwa.
Through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, ₦435 million was also approved for the procurement of operational vehicles for the State Hisba Board.
Beyond project approvals the Council approved the acquisition in overriding public interest, of Saymays Specialist Hospital at Gandun Albasa and a private property adjacent to the Infectious Diseases Hospital and Abubakar Imam Urology Centre at France Road.
It also approved a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement for the proposed Kano Energy and SME Industrial Park at the AKK Industrial Layout, Tamburawa, aimed at supporting energy-related businesses and small and medium-scale enterprises.
The Council also approved the conduct of KANFEST 2026, Kano’s annual art and cultural festival, while approving the 2026 Supplementary Budget/Amendment of ₦1.201 trillion, which it directed to be transmitted to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and approval. It further directed the Ministry of Works to submit a detailed Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation for the dilapidated Eastern Bypass–Tsamiya Babba–Larabawar Abasawa–Nera Roundabout corridor.
The meeting also witnessed the presentation of various merit awards to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in recognition of his contributions to the development of Kano State and implementation of government programmes and projects across different sectors.
