Kano State Government is set to improve its annual income with at least one billion naira from the mining activities in the state.
The state Commissioner of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Alhaji Safiyanu Hamza Kachako made the disclosure today at a live radio program monitored by the PRO of the ministry.
Alhaji Safiyanu Hamza Kachako explained that with the establishment of the Ministry by the State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf and the mandate given to it, plans have reached advance stage to collaborate with stake holders in the sector from within and outside the country to harness the state endowed solid mineral resources for overall economic development of the state.
A statement issued by the Director Public Enlightenment of the Ministry, Adamu Ibrahim Dabo Dawakin Tofa pointed out that during the radio live program, the Commissioner further explained that the ministry under his able leadership had designed an action plan that would compliment government efforts to generating more job opportunities to our teeming youth and protection of both licenced and artisanal miners, host communities as well as the flora and fauna that could be affected by the mining activities.
According to him, this could only be achieved through continuous environmental impact assessment by the ministry and ensure compliance to corporate social responsibilities by the mining firms wherever they operate within the state.
The Commissioner added that the ministry is currently receiving licenced and artisanal miners for registration.
