A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulrazak Namdas, has declared his intention to contest in the forthcoming governorship election after extensive consultations across Adamawa State.
The former Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity said farmers–herders clashes remain a major concern in the state, assuring that he would pursue sustainable solutions to restore peace and boost agricultural productivity.
Speaking to party leaders and supporters at a rally, Namdas stated: “If I am given the mandate of the people of Adamawa State, I will prioritise security. I have identified farmers–herders clashes as a major concern, and I will pursue sustainable solutions to restore peace and enhance agricultural productivity.”
The member of the House Committee on Army also disclosed that over 80 percent of the individuals and groups he consulted, including women, youths, students, and other stakeholders, have endorsed his ambition, giving him the confidence to join the race.
According to Namdas, his decision was further influenced by assurances from the state party leadership, which he said had consistently emphasised the need to hand over leadership to grassroots politicians.
He expressed confidence that he fits that description, noting his long-standing connection with communities across the state.
Outlining his vision for Adamawa, Namdas pledged to prioritise human capital development, security, education, infrastructure, healthcare, water supply, and rural development if elected.
He also promised inclusive governance, with deliberate efforts to empower women and youths.
The aspirant noted that he has engaged with his co-aspirants, describing them as qualified individuals, but maintained that he stands out based on his experience and deep understanding of the state’s challenges, having “traversed every nook and cranny” of Adamawa.
He added that he would soon embark on another statewide tour to further connect with the people.
Namdas called for unity among party members, urging all aspirants to embrace a peaceful and democratic process, emphasising that his ambition is not a do-or-die affair.
He also commended the conduct of the recent party congresses in the state, describing them as free, fair, and inclusive.
In his remarks, the Adamawa State APC Chairman, Hamza Alhaji Bello Madagali, welcomed Namdas’ declaration, describing it as a positive development for the party, and assured all aspirants of a level playing field.
Madagali stressed that under his leadership, no individual would be given undue advantage, adding that the party remains committed to conducting transparent and credible primaries acceptable to all contestants.
He said, “We will provide an enabling environment for everyone. No aspirant will be favoured. The process that produced the current leadership will be replicated during the primaries to ensure fairness and inclusiveness.”
