The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged its newly inaugurated executives at the state, local government and ward levels in Adamawa State to uphold the party’s constitution, maintain discipline and discharge their responsibilities with integrity.
The State and Local Government Electoral Committee Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Jalo Donga, gave the charge during the inauguration of the newly elected executive committees in Yola, following the successful conclusion of the local government and ward congresses.
He said the exercise was part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Donga stressed that the stability and electoral performance of the PDP would depend largely on the quality of leadership at the grassroots.
He said the congresses were conducted peacefully and in accordance with the party’s constitution and approved electoral guidelines.
Donga noted that the completion of the congresses and inauguration of the executives had provided the party with substantive leadership structures at the state, local government and ward levels.
He explained that the local government and ward congresses were held on Monday, with the elected executives sworn in the same day, while the state-level inauguration completed the process.
According to him, the exercise enabled the PDP to meet the constitutional and electoral requirements for having duly constituted executives at all levels.
He commended party members across the state for their cooperation, discipline and support, which he said contributed to the peaceful and transparent conduct of the congresses.
Donga said, “I charged the newly inaugurated executives to uphold the party’s constitution, maintain discipline and discharge their duties with integrity.”
He also called on the new officers to avoid actions that could undermine party unity and instead work collectively to strengthen the party’s structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking after his inauguration, the new State Chairman, Belmond Dogo, thanked party members for their resilience, orderly conduct and support throughout the congress process.
Dogo described his emergence and that of the other executives as a responsibility rather than a privilege, and pledged to provide inclusive and disciplined leadership.
He said, “It is with great humility, gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility that I stand before you today on behalf of the newly inaugurated State Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“I sincerely appreciate the National Executive of our great party for coming to Adamawa State to formally inaugurate us as the State Executive Committee. We are deeply honoured by your presence and grateful for the confidence reposed in us to serve the party at this important time.
“Our inauguration today marks the beginning of a new chapter in the administration of our party in Adamawa State. We fully recognise that the positions entrusted to us are not privileges but responsibilities.
“We therefore pledge to discharge our duties with humility, fairness, consultation, discipline and unwavering commitment to the principles and constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party. We will work closely with the National Working Committee and all organs of the party to strengthen the party from the grassroots upwards.”
Speaking earlier, Hon. Adamu Hammantukur Ribadu, Director-General of the Maurice Vunobolki Campaign Organisation, described the completion of the congresses as a major step towards rebuilding the party’s grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ribadu said the development marked the beginning of renewed efforts by the PDP to consolidate its political structures across Adamawa State.
He recalled that the party had remained a major political force in the state since the beginning of the Fourth Republic, arguing that its loss of power at the centre in 2015 was temporary.
