Police in Cross River State have confirmed the death of 36-year-old Charles Ekuma Eze, who allegedly died after being attacked with a dagger following a heated argument with 42-year-old Micheal Ndifon.
The incident occurred over the weekend in Etayip Community, Ikom Town, in Ikom Local Government Area.
The circumstances surrounding the altercation are still under investigation.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said the victim was initially rushed to Holy Family Hospital, Ikom, for treatment before being referred to the Ebonyi State Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor while receiving treatment.
According to Akata, the Chairman of the Task Force and the Youth Leader of Asse-Asin Community, Ndifon Nkang and Felix Agbor, respectively, reported the incident to the Ikom Police Division.
He said, “The Task Force Chairman and Youth Leader of Asse-Asin Community reported that at about 5:46 p.m. on the same day, the suspect, Micheal Ndifon, allegedly stabbed Charles Ekuma Eze with a dagger on his right rib during an argument.”
Akata confirmed that the suspect has been arrested, while the deceased’s body has been deposited in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
“We have also recovered the suspected murder weapon as an exhibit.
Investigation is ongoing, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation,” he added.
