Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State has spent N83 million to upgrade its semi-urban water scheme aimed at providing clean water to the community.
The Chairman of the council, Usman Nalado, revealed this while receiving members of the Correspondents’ Chapel during a tour of the area. Nalado explained that the water scheme now supplies 50,000 liters of water daily.
He also highlighted that the council had provided solar electricity and drilled eight boreholes to support the water supply system. Nalado assured that the council would ensure the maintenance of the scheme and implement security measures to prevent vandalism.
Additionally, Nalado informed the visiting journalists that the council had established a women’s center to train women in handicrafts. Over 10,000 women have benefited from this initiative and received cash assistance.
In related news, Baure Local Government, in collaboration with the state government, has begun providing agricultural inputs to farmers at subsidized rates. The Chairman of the council, Murtala Adamu Baure, also announced the renovation of three health clinics and the construction of housing for doctors.
Adamu further explained that the council had constructed drainage systems and culverts to address flooding within Baure town. He commended the state government for releasing funds to local governments to facilitate project execution.
Our correspondent reports that members of the chapel inspected various projects in Maidua, Daura, Ingawa, Kusada, Sandamu, Zango, and other areas.
These projects included those related to health, water supply, education, road construction, and electrification.
