Senator (Dr.) Rufai Hanga, who represents Kano Central Senatorial District in the Senate, has announced his resignation from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), bringing an end to his membership of the party.
In a resignation letter dated August 3, 2026, and shared on his official Facebook page, Hanga informed the Ward Chairman of the NDC in Dakata Ward, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, that his resignation takes immediate effect.
The lawmaker said his decision followed “careful reflection and personal deliberation,” adding that he was leaving the party to pursue other personal commitments and career paths.
Despite his departure, Senator Hanga expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the party at the ward level for the support and cooperation he received during his time in the NDC.
He said he valued the relationships he built and the experiences gained through his political activities within the party.
The senator also stated that he had attached his official NDC membership card to the letter and requested that his name be removed from the party’s membership register at the ward level.
Hanga concluded by wishing the Nigeria Democratic Congress and its members success in their future endeavours.
The resignation has sparked political discussions in Kano, although the senator did not disclose his next political destination or future plans.
