No discussion about His Excellency, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, Executive Governor of Yobe State, is complete without reference to his remarkable impact on both Yobe State and Nigerian politics.
Speaking on the occasion of Governor Buni’s seventh anniversary in office, the National President of the Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN), Khalid Muhammad Bello, described the governor as one of the exceptional leaders endowed by Almighty Allah with rare leadership qualities.
According to Bello, these qualities enabled Governor Buni to excel not only as Governor of Yobe State but also as Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, where he played a significant role in stabilizing and repositioning the ruling party.
He noted that Governor Buni’s administration has positively impacted hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people across Yobe State through various developmental initiatives.
In the agricultural sector, the governor strengthened food production by purchasing and distributing tractors, harvesters, fertilizers, and other farming inputs either free of charge or at highly subsidized rates.
These interventions, according to KACRAN, greatly enhanced agricultural productivity throughout the state.
Governor Buni also demonstrated his commitment to livestock development by establishing a dedicated Ministry of Livestock Development and appointing competent and hardworking commissioners based on merit, including key officials in the agricultural sector.
KACRAN further commended the administration’s efforts in transforming commerce and business activities through the construction of modern markets in major towns across the state.
These developments have positioned Yobe as an emerging commercial hub in the North-East, particularly with the anticipated full operation of the Gago Airport.
In the education sector, Bello stated that Governor Buni has significantly changed the narrative of Yobe State, moving it from being perceived as educationally disadvantaged to becoming one of the leading states in educational development.
He added that the administration has empowered hundreds of thousands of youths and women through employment opportunities and financial support for small businesses.
The association also highlighted Governor Buni’s growing influence in national politics. Bello noted that he remains one of Nigeria’s most respected political figures, having been entrusted with key national assignments by two APC administrations.
He served as APC Caretaker Chairman under former President Muhammadu Buhari and currently chairs the Party Internal Conflict Reconciliation Committee under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
“Based on our critical assessment of Governor Buni’s seven years in office, KACRAN firmly believes that he has performed exceptionally well across virtually all sectors, including agriculture, commerce, education, job creation, and social development,” Bello stated.
He further described Governor Buni as the ‘Limanin Sulhu’ of Nigerian politics, citing his ability to use dialogue, wisdom, and political experience to reconcile differences and promote unity within the APC.
KACRAN concluded that Governor Buni’s seventh anniversary deserves celebration not only by the people of Yobe State, who have directly benefited from his people-oriented policies and programmes, but also by the APC, which has benefited from his commitment to party unity and national development.
The association expressed optimism that Governor Buni’s leadership experience and dedication to public service would continue to contribute to the progress of both Yobe State and Nigeria.
