The Sokoto State Government has approved the constitution of a 20-member Hajj Reception Committee to coordinate the arrival and reception of pilgrims returning from the 2026 Hajj exercise.
According to a statement issued by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Abubakar Bawa, Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto approved the committee to ensure a smooth and orderly reception of the pilgrims.
The statement disclosed that the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs will serve as the chairman of the committee, while the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice will act as co-chairman.
Other members of the committee include representatives of the State House of Assembly, the Commissioners for Information and Humanitarian Affairs, the Special Adviser on Special Religious and Basic Education Programmes, as well as representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Customs Service, and Nigeria Immigration Service.
Additional members are Alhaji Abubakar Assad, Alhaji Bashar Nuhu “Bashar,” Alhaji Buba Mai Rago, Alhaji Chika Mai Starlet, Abubakar Doctor, Yusuf Labo, and Alhaji Amir Hamza.
The committee has been mandated to organize a befitting reception for the returning pilgrims, coordinate their transportation to various local government areas, ensure that all pilgrims receive their luggage, and maintain orderliness during the luggage collection process.
The state government expressed confidence that the committee would effectively discharge its responsibilities and facilitate a seamless homecoming for the pilgrims.
