The Sokoto State Government has dissociated itself from anyone, regardless of status, who hides under the pretext of religion to undermine or disrespect the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his parents, family and companions.
This was contained in a statement issued by Abubakar Bawa, Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto.
The statement reaffirmed the government’s total obedience to and respect for the personality of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his parents, household and companions.
It also urged residents of the state to continue to show love and reverence for the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
On the recent religious tensions that affected some parts of the metropolis, the state government said it had constituted a committee of Islamic scholars (Ulamas) to examine the remote and immediate causes of the crisis and advise the government on appropriate measures to be taken in the interest of the state.
Furthermore, the government ordered a full investigation into the attack and killing at the Musa Lukkwa Jumu’at Mosque in Mabera and directed the closure of the mosque, which is being treated as a crime scene, until further notice.
The government appealed to residents of the state to desist from making inciting statements that could jeopardise the peaceful coexistence for which Sokoto is known.
It also assured residents of its commitment to protecting the lives and property of every citizen in the state.
